After such a sweet history, dry furmint is aiming to be the next star wine from Tokaj. Exceeding all expectations, AMADEUS is an alluring blend of furmint and hárslevelű, the region’s leading historic grape varieties. Handcrafted using traditional techniques, it is dry and balanced, yet it has an indelible stamp of sweet richness to it, as if Botrytis, the fungus that so beautifully intensifies the flavors of aszú had somehow insinuated its way into this sublime wine as well.

Conveying a heavenly concerto for the palate, this ambrosial product offers an original taste of elegant fruits, and just a hint of C major. Music and wine have a well-established affinity, and the idea of tasting “notes” in wine has a double meaning for AM-Tokaj. AMADEUS was produced from grapes grown in vineyards where classical music plays around-the-clock, every day. The truly congenial aromas and flavors reflect the emotion-soaked harmonious existence and mysterious social life of our crops.

The concept that plants are sensing organisms that can hear and respond to music has a long and checkered history. They are known to react to light, wind, temperature, soil nutrients and, it has been discovered, sound. While scientific research projects on the sensory capabilities of grape-vines are underway, sonic waves are known to trigger small changes in gene expression and germination rates. Acoustic vibration has also proved to be a natural repellent to mold, bacteria, parasites, and fruit predators. Among the many different genres, playing soothing classical music to vine plantations makes grapes substantially sweeter, heartier, and more pest resistant.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart has been credited with everything from increasing the intelligence of unborn babies to boosting the milk yield of cows, and our grapes are the first in Tokaj to take in the strains of the great 18th century Austrian composer. Serving as a revitalizing lullaby during their dormancy in the winter and providing an ideal growing environment from bud-break to harvest in every vintage, the Mozart-effect dramatically increases sugar content and robustness of the grapes: it has become a sort of musical energizer, fertilizer and pesticide for our organic domaine.

Classical tunes fill the warm air and are also played in the cellars as our wines ferment: Mozart interacts with the yeast, and the result is a richer, smoother, fuller tasting wine. Utilizing plant sentience and emotion, our serenaded grapes may be the happiest and most pampered in all of Tokaj, if not in the whole wide world. The incredible taste of our high-priced, classical music-fed AMADEUS wine quickly gained global recognition.
